Audi Grandsphere HMI Details
The Grandsphere has Level 4 autonomy – this is considered to be fully autonomous driving, although a human driver can still request control, and the car still has a cockpit. In level 4, the car can handle the majority of driving situations independently. The technology in level 4 is developed to the point that a car can handle highly complex urban driving situations, such as the sudden appearance of construction sites, without any driver intervention.
In autonomous mode it retracts the steering wheels and pedals behind the dashboard giving more room to the occupants.
Rather than the usual digital display that can become dated the Grandsphere’s HMI is actually a frameless panel of wood with built in projectors that turn the natural wood dashboard into a widescreen display. Aside from a single dial on each of the doors the car is free from buttons using eye tracking, speech, touch and gesture to interact with the controls and touch sensitive areas in the doors to confirm your actions.
