The Renault 5 Turbo 3E dashboard gives a huge nod back to the R5 Turbo of the 1980’s with its instantly recognisable features. The 10 analogue instruments covering the dashboard of the original car have been replaced by 10 seperate digital screens in the R5 Turbo 3E. Each screen represents a different widget with the user interface visually inspired by glitch art looking like a retro arcade game of the 80s.
That gamification is not just visual. For example to start the car you have to push the “Free play” button on the center console. The car also has multiple gamified driving modes:
Turbo - puts the car in drift mode
Track Invader - for ‘playing’ around in the car
Donut - for 360° spins
When one of the drift modes is active, pink, blue and yellow LED stripes flash on the front of the car, adding to the “1980s video-game vibe”.
Besides being a very real car, the R5 TURBO 3E show car is also a sign of its times. Its digital double will spring to life in the universe of virtual games in the Web3, the decentralised Internet where online platforms and services use a model based on blockchain. A collection of NFTs (Non Fungible Tokens) based around the vehicle will also be available and people who own these digital assets will be offered exclusive advantages and rewards.
